Climate

Climate Types: The local climate in Thailand is Tropical and mainly consists of monsoons.South eastern side of the country has a rainy, warm, and cloudy weather with monsoon from mid-May to September. And, the north east side has a dry (Savanna), cool weather with monsoon from November to mid-March. The southern side of the country however, is always hot and humid (Wikipedia).

According to Wikipedia, " With only minor exceptions, every area of the country receives adequate rainfall, but the duration of the rainy season and the amount of rain vary substantially from region to region and with altitude."

From March to September, when the sunlight is directly above the equator, the land is heated more than the Indian Ocean which attracts moist hot air from the ocean to Phuket and southern Thailand. This brings the rains of the southwest monsoon. During May, sunlight facing south of the equator, heats the Indian Ocean which attracts the cooler dry air of the northeast monsoon from the highlands of Asia to the South and Southeast part of Asia. By October the direction of the wind will have shifted to the northeast and cause another brief wet period. Then the northeast monsoon moves down the east coast of Thailand and back into the Indian Ocean (DiveAsia).

Seasonality:  Temperatures in Thailand normally range from an average high of 38 °C (100.4 °F) to a low of 19 °C (66.2 °F) (Wikipedia).

The map above shown the temperature map of two cities of Thailand, Phuket and Bangkok. Looking at  the temperature range, annual range of temperature in Phuket is 1.8 C and annual range of temperature in Bangkok is 4.6 C.
Annual range of temperature in Denver is 21 C. Thus, in comparison, Denver has a large season modality compared to Phuket and Bangkok which has fairly warm temperature.

Annual range of precipitation in Phuket is 384.3 mm/month and in Bangkok is 310.5 mm/month.
Phuket and Bangkok has a large modality when it comes to precipitation where there are months like January and February when there isn't much rainfall compared to months like May and September.

The season modality when is comes to precipitation is low in Denver compared to Phuket and Bangkok.

Historical Event:

There was a Tsunami in Thailand December, 2004 that killed thousands of people triggered by an undersea earthquake off the coast of Sumatra. It devastates communities on the south-west coast, including the resorts of Phuket. (BBC News).

  1. When looking at our temperature graph they are both very similar, however when comparing Indonesia's precipitation graph to Thailand the results are surprisingly varied. My graphs both vary where yours essentially follow each other. I wonder why this change occurs in such close proximate to each other. Maybe it has something to do with the islands and the longitude.

  2. I was very surprised to see that the temperature stays so consist for these two cities, with an annual range in Phuket of only 1.8 degrees Celsius, there is not much seasonality at all. I don't think I would be able to live in a place that is consistently so warm.
